The flame on my griddle is low or isn't producing enough heat

If the flame on your Blackstone griddle is low or is not producing the heat that you'd expect you can try the suggested troubleshooting below for your type of griddle.

Griddles with regulators that connect to bulk (20-pound) tanks:

Most likely there isn't anything wrong with your griddle, it's just that the safety system in your regulator has been tripped because a high pressure of propane went through your regulator, and a reset is required.

United States regulations require that all griddle regulators contain a flow-limiting device for consumer safety. This device measures the amount of propane going through the regulator to ensure the levels are safe. If the flow rate through the regulator is too high (a symptom of a large leak), the flow limiting device will trigger, restricting the flow of propane to reduce the chance of a dangerous fire. This safety system can accidentally be tripped by opening a propane tank too quickly, especially with a full tank, or opening the propane tank when a burner knob is not in the off position.

To fix that, please complete a regulator reset. The following steps outline the process:
  1. Turn all your burners to the OFF position and close your propane tank.
  2. Unscrew your regulator connector from your propane tank.
  3. Tap the black connector piece face down against your palm gently. This can help dislodge the ball bearing in the safety system in case it got stuck.
  4. Reconnect your regulator to your propane tank. Make sure to insert the brass insert on your regulator straight into the propane tank valve and tighten the connector securely by hand. Do not overtighten or use tools, as that could damage the seal.
  5. Slowly open your propane tank valve. To ensure the pressure leaving the tank stays low to prevent your flow limiter from tripping again, take 30 seconds to open your tank 1/2 of a turn, then stop. Half a turn is plenty of propane for your griddle to function correctly.

If you are still experiencing low flames after resetting your regulator, please complete a leak test to verify that there isn't a problem with your gas delivery. If there is a leak or you are unable to get gas flow after resetting your regulator a second time, discontinue using your griddle and register your griddle to activate your warranty. Once that is completed, please contact us via chat here, submit a ticket, or call us at (435) 252-3030 Ext. 1 between 7AM and 5PM MST.
